News: The Straights Return With New Single ‘Remedy’

The Straights return with a vengeance on their electrifying new single, ‘Remedy’ — a genre-blurring anthem that fuses the urgency of alternative rock with the grit of garage and the heart of indie.

Formed in Portsmouth in 2019, The Straights have become known for their high-energy live shows and unapologetically raw sound. The four-piece — George Years (vocals), Billy May (guitar), Michael Arthur (bass), and Jack Crash (drums) — came into their own following their live debut in late 2021, quickly building momentum with FM radio play across the UK, US, and Canada, and support slots opening for icons like Buzzcocks and Inspiral Carpets.

With ‘Remedy’ The Straights have honed their sound into something both ferocious and emotionally resonant. Drawing comparisons to The Manic Street Preachers, The Libertines, and The Black Keys, the track bristles with overdriven guitars, pounding drums, and a vocal performance that burns with conviction. Carrying a driving brit-pop undertone met with the bands alt-rock tendencies, the track lyrically, it channels the chaos and confusion of modern life into a cathartic release.

“‘Remedy’ is about feeling broken and trying to find your way back through sound, sweat, and spirit. It’s loud, it’s messy, and it’s real — just like us,” says frontman George Years.

That raw authenticity has caught the attention of names like Rick Witter (Shed Seven), Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs), and Billy Bibby (Catfish and the Bottlemen), all of whom have praised the band’s energy and songwriting. It’s no surprise then that The Straights are rapidly earning a reputation as one of the UK’s must-see live acts, having also shared stages with rising stars including STONE, The Skinner Brothers, and Rosellas.
