With Love Revolution, John Beltran’s Sol Set project returns in fine form, delivering a sun-drenched, deeply musical EP that radiates warmth and groove. Rooted in Brazilian jazz-funk but stretching comfortably into soulful house, Latin rhythms, and downtempo bliss, this latest chapter in the Detroit-based collective’s journey feels both timeless and joyfully present—a record made for golden hour soundtracking and after-dark unwinding alike.
Sol Set has always been about connection—between musicians, moods, and musical cultures. Since its inception over two decades ago, the collective has been a platform for top-tier collaborators to explore and blend their shared love of Brazilian soul, jazz fusion, and global dance grooves. Beltran, as ever, serves as the glue, curating a vibe that’s rich in detail and natural in flow. With Taylor Taylor, Walter White, Earl Green, and Gabriel Oliveira among the contributors, Love Revolution continues to elevate the Sol Set ethos with style and spirit.
The EP opens with “Through Fire,” a lush, Brazilian-influenced jazz house gem that ripples with soft percussion, muted trumpet lines, and Taylor’s featherlight vocals. It’s relaxed, sophisticated, and steeped in sunlight, evoking terrace mornings and seaside breezes. “War of the Hearts,” a reimagined take on the Sade classic, leans into jazzy soul with layered harmonies, Latin percussion, and a rubbery, fluid bassline. The vocals shimmer with intimacy while the groove holds steady, inviting both reflection and gentle movement.
The title track “Love Revolution” picks up the pace, with South African vocalist Earl Green bringing a subtle house/disco flair to the mix. Anchored by a winding bassline and soulful synths, the track balances its dancefloor energy with melodic elegance and a hopeful message. Closing the set is “Maragogi,” a gorgeous samba-led piece where Brazilian artist Gabriel Oliveira brings the flavor home—rhythmic, vibrant, and bursting with authenticity. Whistles, groove, and vocal interplay combine into a breezy, infectious finale.
Love Revolution is another glowing entry in Sol Set’s small but potent discography. It’s music that feels organic, carefully arranged yet effortless, and unified by a love for rhythm and soul. Whether you’re swaying on a rooftop, lounging in the sun, or dreaming of distant coasts, this EP delivers pure musical escapism—joyous, heartfelt, and supremely listenable.
